23XL Carrier slide valve showing obvious inner seal failure. The scoring caused by the exposed spring gasket causes the the slide to stick, not allowing the chiller to perform up to full load. A common issue with aging 23XL Carrier chillers that requires refrigerant recovery, tear down, a new shaft and accompanying gaskets to repair, along with a number of special tools.
